Metal Mounts are named to describe the type of
material (typically Stainless Steel) used to make the resilient element
component of the mount. Metal Mounts are typically used for vibration isolation applications
although some will provide limited to excellent shock protection for a
given installation. Metal mounts find the most use in harsh or
extreme service environments; i.e., temperature and chemical. Most
of these mounts are integrally
fail-safe ensuring positive capture of the payload in the unlikely
event of failure of the resilient element. Use of a back up washer
is required with the Metal-Flex® bushings series to achieve a fail safe
installation. Most metal mesh mounts
compress the resilient element in use no matter what the axis of input
and perform best when supporting the primary static load axially through
the mount.
An exception to these descriptions is the Cable Mounts series as they are used in limited roll and tension modes and are not fail-safe* by definition. *(Technical point; by definition, failsafe method is to be provided by means other than the resilient element.)
